Some people say that Dst isn't hard anymore. That's it's a "use exploits and build your base" type of game or Minecraft 2.0
So maybe when creating a world there could be a hard mode.
And I don't mean it by Klei standarts "use world customization and get enemies on more" cuz I want an actually hard mode not "Oh hey 5 clockwork rooks are fighting 7 spider dens. Oh and my game satrts to lag cuz there're 100 bees on the screen"
Here're some suggestions:
-Edge is deadly. If you or anything walks to the edge you will fall of into the ocean/abyss instantly dying and lossing all your stuff if you ressurect. Same goes for creatures so you can't just block koalefant or volt goats and attack them. That way people also wouldn't be able to skip autrium or exploit fuelweaver.
-New type of Krampus. He'd spawn if numer of food in the fridge was too high (let's say 1.5 full fridge). He'd appear from the ground/smoke and simply steal 3 random stacks of food. Unkillable.
-Advanced creature A.I. Pigs will no longer walk into the fence trying to get the food, they'll attack/ignore it. Bunnyman will kill Chester/Hutch if he carries meat in him. Bosses like Bee Queen or D-fly would retreat when there're more than 20 bunnyman/pigs (houses) around. Creature's now predict player movements and kite us better avoiding our attacks instead of attacking and running away.
