Small change to reflect Charlie's Reign

$

Hey!

This suggestion is proposing something very simple. No entirely different worlds, balancing, grief protection; none of that. Instead, it's pretty simple.

While exploring, I've always wondered why Maxwell Statues are still the same when I find them in Don't Starve Together, after Charlie has began her rule. So, what I propose is this:

  • All naturally-generating Maxwell Statues in Don't Starve Together are instead to be Charlie Statues.
  • This Charlie Statue drops the exact same thing as Maxwell Statues - 2-3 Marble.
  • Maxwell can still craft his statue with 3 Marble with the Potter's Wheel.

Please leave feedback, thanks! I'm going to see if I can maybe draw up a Charlie Statue in my free time.

Please add a queue for joining full servers.

You could also consider adding more EU servers along with Hound Huggles, Slurtle Slime and Spiders and such. They are full most of a time ;_;

Achievements

This isn't anything big, just a little thing to add that might make the game more enjoyable. I'll list a few ideas for achievements down below.

Eye for an Eye - Defeat the Deerclops.

Master Cook - Create every crock pot recipe at least once.

Chubby Buddy - Successfully tame a Beefalo with the Pudgy typing.

Making Science - Create a science machine/alchemy engine for the first time.

Do You Have the Time? - Survive 100 days in a single world.

Who Let the Dogs Out? - Experience 25 separate hound attacks.

Life Saver - Revive a player for the first time.

Bug Guts and Glory - Kill a total of 10,000 insects.

Welcome Home - Adopt a pet for the first time.

Fashion Show - Dress up a character with a different cosmetic at least once.

Not Starving - Reach day 20 without reaching 0 hunger or dying.

Willow

Alright, some more (or the same) arguments against Willow's current state.

1) Griefing with fire doesn't require a lighter. It requires 2 grass and 2 twigs. That's all it takes to grief with fire. If you want to stop griefing with fire, you're not solving it by nerfing Willow's lighter.

2) Willow is immune to fire. She's not immune to axes, spears, shovels, or pickaxes.

3) If you really wanted to prevent griefing, you could do the same thing that was done in other Sandbox games: "grief protection". If you don't place it, you don't get to break it. It's that simple...

4) No, actually, I lied, it's even simpler. This is why a host should use passworded servers and ONLY passworded servers. If someone comes on my server and griefs because I left my server unsecured, then that's my fault as the host. Griefers are going to grief, but they can't grief a server that they can't get into. Stop letting the worst of humanity ruin the fun for everyone else that has the good sense to use passwords, Klei. Don't let trolls dictate who the characters are.

Refueble lazy forargers

It would be a feat thing if it was refuleble, since it's a SUPER rare occasions when people actually make them or even use orange gems, making extra ones are a waste, because they use up quickly enough. Picking wood up after chopping and lagging a lot sometimes makes it real hell, but having one of the amulets is very useful. The lazy explorers are mostly the only thing is that being used, tho I think it's fair to say that it doesn't need to have refuel option, it's strong as it is. I rather loose 1 sanity per pickup with an amulet that can be refueled than having fast breaking amulet with less and almost no use what's so ever. (P.s. willow quote about picking up burning materials is a lie :p )

The purchase method was a little bit stupid

So i'm going in a little bit of rant here, my condition right now is a little bit freaky

Oh how am I kidding, I am FURIOUS

So it just start with me whom has recently purchased a copy of DST for my lil bro and my buddy jane doe, I thought i was gonna get two copies like before, but Instead I only gained one copy in my inventory since I already owned DST. For a moment I believed that I've just got ripped off by steam store, but then I figured that I was gonna get the extra copy once someone has redeemed my gift, so I sent one of the copy to jane doe and had her redeem my gift, but when she did turn out she's the one who got the extra copy, and guess what !!! She can't send the gift back to my brother because her steam steam ID is non-premium, which mean she need to wait out for 3 month before she is allowed to do any premium action like adding my brother or me as a steam friend to gift back.

This is literally the worst time for me, since Klei themselves in on their winter vacation

Long story short, My suggestion is to change the purchase method to just simply give two copies instead of a Russian nesting doll

BeeClearing and PigKingdom

There is no reason why these two rooms shouldn't include some level of prefab distribution.

-------

BeeClearing designates an entire room to a single beehive, one firefly, and six flowers.  Not only does this play horrendously with worldsize scaling, but it barely plays nice with the default scaling if the room generates at any size but close to the absolute minimum.  Take some inspiration from Waspnests and have it load up the area with flowers and maybe a few more hives than just one.

PigKingdom suffers from a similar case of being a parking lot.  Sure it has a couple things that can show up there, but it's not much, and more often than not they don't (3% chance of having 1-2 tree farms is as silly as it is confusing).  PigVillage should not be infinitely more lively and interesting than the seat of the king of all pigs.

Beefalo Carriages and Collars

Before beginning to write this, I have one thing to propose:

I am completely fine with the domestication process. I have no problem with it. Alright, let's start.

Alright, here we go. Glad this isn't another suggestion proposing changes to domestication or griefers.

To me, domesticating a Beefalo is usually worth it, depending on the circumstances. If you happen to fight a lot, an Ornery Beefalo is usually handy. If you travel often, the Rider Beefalo is your best friend. Pudgy Beefalo are useful just in case you happen to get into trouble with insanity-inducing creatures. In this suggestion, I propose further items and methods to make Beefalo more useful in exchange for crafting resources.

Beefalo Carriage

Ingredients: 7 Boards, 6 Silk, 2 Cut Stone, 4 Beefalo Wool at an Alchemy Engine

The Beefalo carriage is a structure you can attach to your Beefalo. Up to three players can ride in it. If attached to a Beefalo, its speed will be reduced by 7% for each player. If it is of the Rider tendency, it won't remove any speed at all. It also has a chest inside of it with 9 slots.

Beefalo Armor

Ingredients: 10 Gold Nuggets, 1 War Saddle, 10 Silk

Beefalo Armor reduces damage to the Beefalo that has been applied the armor by 85% and has 900 durability. It also increases damage by 20 - this can be used in conjunction with the War Saddle for 36 bonua damage.

Extra-Adorable Beefalo Hats

Jist of this one is that you can put clothing on Pudgy Beefalo. If the clothing in question increases sanity, the sanity boost is combined with the Pudgy Beefalo.

That's about it. If this thread somehow gets enough attention I'll probably sketch up some designs.

Marsh Giant : Rotfly

$

0

This could be one giant or multiple smaller giants that spawn in the Marsh. They are more likely to spawn when you have lots of rot and manure in Spring or Summer, the same way Bearger spawns when you have more Beeboxes.

Rotflies are not incredibly strong, but they are fast and can apply a lot of nasty effects to your base/supplies.

Rotflies' attacks to you will cause any food you're carrying to have its 'days until spoil' reduced by 0.5

Rotflies disease (by touch) can be used on your ice boxes and slowly rot all the food. Using disease on bushes, saplings, grass, trees, or farms will cause them to become diseased. The effect does not come immediately, but after the Rotfly is 'infecting' the object for 5-10 seconds which can be interrupted by the player

Rotfly larva will spawn in the Marsh if you have lots of rot and/or manure stored in inventories and chests, and develop into Rotfly after 1 day if not killed. I think a good amount would be if you have over 100 combined rot and manure then they start spawning.

Possible Drops:

Rotgland - Can be used to make Rotsack: rots any perishable item in 0.5 days

Rotstone: Place in any fridge or inventory to slow rotting by 75%

Rotserum: Remove disease from any plants: 50 uses

Take and deal damage from your own screen

I don't really know how network stuff works in this game, but a lot of people seem to be complaining about lag, especially when kiting. I guessing that's because when they dodge an enemy, they will see on their screen that they are out of range of an attack, however because there is a delay before the information of the player running from one position to another is sent to the server, the server will think that the player is still in range of the attack and therefore should take damage.

Spoiler

hob8q6t.png

In other multiplayer games, the same thing happens because lag is unavoidable. For example in TF2, let's say, somebody is chasing you while you are backpedaling. You both have your melee weapons out and take swings at each other, however only his hits register. The game makes you take damage from where you are and deal damage from where you were. That is because while you know your real position, where you see yourself on your screen, the server only knows your delayed position. How outdated your position is to the server depends on your ping. If you have 200 ping, then the server only takes into account your position from 0.2 seconds ago. 50 ping means a 0.05 second delay, 1000 ping means a 1 second delay, etc.

Spoiler

TF2 actually uses collision hulls for melee hit registration instead of hitboxes, but "hitbox" is a more familiar term for most players. Also here's the video which made me learn this.

Currently, DST makes you take damage from where you were, even if the attack animation of the mob doesn't match up. This usually gives the illusion that mobs have doubled attack range and quicker attack wind-ups, which I can understand is frustrating. What if the game only let you take damage from where you are? This means the game only checks if you were in attack range or not when the mob performs its attack on your own screen instead of the server. I believe that would be a more reliable way to decide if a player should take damage or not.

Again, I don't know how network stuff works in this game. If somebody with proper knowledge can provide a better solution, then that would be delightful.

Note that I'm not saying I'm completely correct, this is all just guesses based on my limited knowledge. Also, don't laugh at the terrible drawings.

World Regrowth Grass Tufts Needed

$

0

With the changes to disease and lizards, every grass tuft dug will turn to rot or get turned to lizards.  The ignorant hunt geekos instead of leaving them alive.  Or grass tufts get transplanted to some fool's base that goes up in flame in summer or to some troll's torch.  In a survival server that lasts over hundreds of days there can be a grassy beefalo biome that's completely without grass forever.  And what are we left with?   Everyone moving to the desert for tumbleweeds.  New joining players dying to darkness and freezing because they can't make a torch or campfire.  Basically, it's a graveyard.

Grass is the most essential crafting tool.  With grass being non-renewable there's a problem in the long run.

Make Gears Renewable

$

Many of the critical items in the game require gears, and in many seeds/worlds they are incredibly rare. This presents an issue as it may take you several hours of gameplay to understand that the world was generated with very few clockworks (the only predictable way to get gears).

In addition to tumbleweeds and graves I'd suggest adding some other mechanic to make or discover gears. Even if we came up with some method to build stone gears or something that needed to be replaced over time (eg broken fridge / flingo).

As a fallback allow gear frequency to be set as a server option, either in general terms or a basement threshold.

Cosmetic changes for WX78

$

Just some cosmetic changes for WX-78 that won't affect the gameplay, just to make him more Robot like.

1. Hunger Icon

Giving the stomach icon a metallic texture, and unlike the human stomach icon, it doesn't shrivel when the hunger meter starts decreasing.

2. Becoming Rusty when Insane

When WX-78 is becoming insane, the player would start the hear squeaky metal noises when WX-78 is moving, as if its body part joints are getting rusty and started jamming.

Also, for the whispers that are heard for humans, WX-78 would hear factory noises and hammers hitting metal, signaling some of his past life.

When WX-78 reaches the insanity level (Shadow monsters start attacking and terror beaks spawn), a medium quantity of black smoke will come out of its head with a "Psssshhht" kind of noise. Followed by a message from WX-78 about CPU damage.

3. Low Health

As WX-78 is getting more injured, white smoke would start coming out from it, electric sparks will be triggered occasionally when health is below 25%, similiar for when WX-78 is charged by lightning.

4. Hallucinations

Due to WX-78 being presumably the creation of Maxwell, he would hallucinate a silhouette of Maxwell that would disappear when he approaches it

This hallucination would replace Mr. Skits (the serpent like shadow creature that also escapes & disappears when approached)

WX-78's Big Portrait needs to be redone.

Shadow Atrium Should be able to Revive The Ancient Gaurdian

There, done.  We now can have renewable guardian horns.

For those who don't know, the Shadow Atrium (Shadow Heart) is dropped after killing a level 3 shadow piece, which is quite difficult considering the work the needs to be done to even attempt a fight.  Right now, the heart has no use, so I thought that using it to revive the Ancient Guardian would be a implementable idea.  A pedestal should be placed in the middle of where the ancient guardian dwells and all you need to do is interact with it using a Shadow Atrium.

Winter's Feast feedback

I got wrapped up in another game for a while and completely missed the Halloween event, but when I saw about the winter's feast on Rhymes With Play, I came back at it and have been playing nearly every day. I LOVE it! I can't tell you all how many times a sugar cookie or chocolate log saved me from starvation, sometimes just enough of a boost you need before getting something more substantial. I love decorating the trees and the No Eye Deers. I have the song stuck in my head, haha. Anyway, I just wanted to applaud everyone at Klei for this fantastic event. I'll miss the goodies dropping every time I kill a spider, but I can't wait to see what you all do next.

More vote power for longer living players; Disable world regeneration vote; Redesign vote window

$
0
0

The longer a player is on a server the more vote power he should have. Or at least his vote should have more power whenever he votes "no".

I've seen one too many worlds being regenerated by the votes of new or dead players who wouldn't give the world a chance or refuse to show some patience and willingness to adapt, thus ruining the progress of eventually outnumbered seasoned-in players. If at least the "no" vote of longer living players would be weighted more this could easily be prevented. Their "no" votes could also then easily outweigh kicking attempts by troll friends who join a server only to start kicking people at random.

Additionally - or alternatively - you could disable any voting for fresh players (like, during their day 1-5 or something). If they may get trolled by other new or seasoned-in players their losses will hardly be that great, they don't really need the vote options at hand when they've only just begun playing on a server.

Perhaps ghosts should be forbidden from issuing and voting on anything at all, or at least they shouldn't be able to vote on world regeneration.

The world regeneration vote should maybe be disabled by default when creating new servers. It might be that the admins of many client-based or dedicated servers don't know how frustrating an unwarranted world regeneration vote can be (are there any warranted world regeneration votes?). If they actively change this vote option to be active so be it, but otherwise it shouldn't be there. The harm caused by trolls can usually mitigated by a rollback; I've yet to see any good reason why people need the world regeneration vote. If they really want it that bad and everyone actually agrees with it people can just kill themselves (in Survival). World regeneration is overkill and has done me a lot more harm than good (I think only harm, actually).

Additionally the vote window is pretty badly designed. I've already caused one or more world regeneration votes to pass because the game would take my click on the wrong option ("yes" instead of "no"). Please redesign the vote window to have more space between both options, maybe put them to the left and right of each other instead of up and down. Maybe prevent mouse clicking on them but instead assign some keyboard keys to the respective vote options, like F1 or F5. That is what any Source-based game does. No way I'm ever gonna accidently choose the wrong option then.

Black Screen Crashes

Hey there!

I have been playing DST with my GF over lan. However in unpredictable, arbitrary, constantly changing intervals I experience crashes resulting in a black screen accompanied by a buzzing sound on the host machine. The specs of the PC are: Core i5-6400, AMD Radeon R9 380, 8 GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro. Originally we played with some mods, however we recently switched to vanilla yet yielding no effect on the crashes. I also tried the "verify integrity of game files" thingy, again without success.

Minor Coustomisation for Critters

I suggest Adding minor customisation for critter pets. Nothing crazy just maybe a bell or something of the sort. Maybe you can give a red or blue gem to your vargling to make it a fire or ice vargling like the hounds. It isn't necessary just a little side feature to add the tiniest bit of extra depth to the pet system that would be quite nice to be featured :D.

Maxwell codex umbra upgrade

$

I was wondering if it would be possible to make Maxwell's shadow puppets more useful in the late game. I was thinking if you were able to "upgrade" the codex umbra to be able to unlock more healthy and powerful shadow minion which come at greater costs. A shadow minion with a ranged attack or a shadow minion that gives a healing aura if you craft it with jelly beans or just a tank type shadow minion, crafted with marble armor with more health and slow movement?  I find 75 health minions cant really stand up for very long and you end up wasting nightmare fuel. I would like to see my fav character getting some much needed love.

Pretty please Klei. I'm sure Maxwell would agree.
