How Klei can do A New Reign on PS4

$

I've thought of a couple ways that Klei could implement A New Reign on PS4.

The most comprehensive and least straining way to Sony, would be for Klei to create a "separate game". It would only be available to people who sign up via form to Klei, with a PSN id that could verify the purchase of DST and Klei could distribute codes for the download. It would be minimally stressful on PSN's servers since all they would have to do is host a game and updates.

I'm sure it could even be configured to use the same files even, but what do I really know.

I know I really want to see ANR beta on PS4. My honey and I play a lot together, but she doesn't like playing on PC. (She has to use her laptop and a controller anyway.) But it's always been a smoother experience when we play on console.

Make Desert Goggles delay overheating

Desert Goggles are a must have during the summer sandstorms and having to give up your Eyebrella or Straw Hat for a hat that doesn't give any heat protection is really crippling as you must either wear a Floral Shirt or carry an Ice Chester with you at all times.
I think giving the Desert Goggles the same heat delay as a Straw Hat a fair change.

[PvP] Hammer should have a 20% chance to cause immediate sleep when striking players

Let water balloons give wetness to any mob

The morning star (and now the electric dart) are really cool weapons, but their utility is extremely limited. Mobs only gain wetness when it rains, and even during Spring there are long lulls between rain storms. It's mostly a crap-shoot whether the morning star will end up being useful, so it does not get used very often.

In DST there happens to already be water balloons. Water balloons are pretty limited themselves, and most people do not use them. They're annoying to craft requiring killing a bunch of mosquitoes in the swamp and ice (or filling them at a pond at the loss of some efficiency).

Here's why waterballoons should give wetness to any mobs in its radius:

  • It's easy and quick to implement. The bulk of the work is already done and in the game.
  • It increases the value and utility of THREE separate items with one simple change.
  • It is balanced. The strategy will require using at least 2 inventory slots. Gathering the necessary materials is time-consuming and dangerous. And you still need to aim and throw the unwieldy water balloons at moving targets.

PC Split Screen

I was wondering if anyone knows of plans to bring split screen to the PC version of Don't Starve Together? I have a PS4 and already own DS+RoG, but I've kind of hit my limit on DS related purchases. Here are the versions I've purchased (in chronological order):

1) DS+RoG for PS4.

2) DS+RoG for PC (for myself)

3) DS Pocket Edition for iOS (for my wife)

3) SW DLC for PC (for myself).

4) Don't Starve Together for PC (2 license bundle, one for me and one for my daughter).

5) DS+RoG+SW for PC (for my daughter).

6) DS+RoG for Android (for myself)

With split screen coming to the PS4 version, it only seems right to include it in the PC version too. I suppose not many people play split-screen on PC, but I use a Steam Link and it would be great to all be able to play together on the couch.

Weighted Voting System + Miscellaneous

This suggestion is coming during an episode of pure, intense rage (although I have thought about it before) after a roughly 7 hour session of DST with my friend in the Here Piggie Piggie Klei Official Server was destroyed in a matter of seconds, mere seconds, after a group of "trolls" came in and voted to restart the world. And this is not the first time this has happened.

Firstly, let me state that I am in full support of there being a Voting system. I absolutely love it. Unfortunately every game, regardless of the platform it is released on, will end up attracting undesirable types if there is a multiplayer option, and the people who are there for either serious play or casual enjoyment need a way to combat the ones who are there to simply ruin the experience for others. However, the current voting system is broken.

My biggest complaint is the fact that people who are dead or have been in the server one day have equal voting rights to the day 50 living users. This simply does not work. With the Klei official servers holding up to 8 players, all it takes is a small group of 3-4 to come and spam the voting system to reset everything. Or, if a group in the server has died and wants to restart it, while a living member wants to continue on with their work in the server, why should they have to reset because the dead overruled them? So long as the living member has met a certain time limit in the server to show they are dedicated to it, they should get to continue. Losing your work sucks.

So, a weighted voting system. I am not a coder so I have no idea the complexity or exact mechanics that could be used to implement such a thing, but I know I would personally support a system in which a) living members get more "voting power" than the dead and b) people who have been in the server longer have more "voting power" than the ones who just joined.

Related to the voting system, it shouldn't be anonymous. Yes, I recognize that some players may try to kick those who had a legitimate reason for starting a kick against them if it doesn't go through simply because they voted them up, but the anonymous system allows users to continually start kick votes without the server being able to identify the culprit.

Now, a completely different suggestion, but related to the trolls incident. A lot of the time it is new, inexperienced users who like to harass the dedicated members. And currently, there are only several official servers available for users who like to play on things that are official, like I do. If possible, I know I would appreciate a few "Experienced Dedicated Servers" in the Klei officials - that is, servers that require you to have played a certain amount of hours in game to join to help lessen the chances of people who have no idea what they're doing joining and ruining the game for everyone else.

Also, a minor note: in-game reports. Just... please.

Thanks for hearing me out. While I have faced my fair share of trolls, griefers, freeloaders, base burners, and the whole spectrum of rotten players in DST, it still remains my favorite game. I have met a lot of wonderful people playing it and really do hope it will be able to rise above the problems caused by the section of the community that is here to bring the rest of us down.

Camp Fire Fire pit and Ice

Normally when you compare the camp fire with the fire pit you can assume the fire pit is the better option of the 2. Recently it has been bugging me that the fire pit can not unfreeze you when frozen. Similarly when standing next to a campfire you can kill ice hounds all day and you'll never freeze. My suggestion is to add this functionality to the fire pit as well.

More vote power for longer living players; Disable world regeneration vote; Redesign vote window

$

The longer a player is on a server the more vote power he should have. Or at least his vote should have more power whenever he votes "no".

I've seen one too many worlds being regenerated by the votes of new or dead players who wouldn't give the world a chance or refuse to show some patience and willingness to adapt, thus ruining the progress of eventually outnumbered seasoned-in players. If at least the "no" vote of longer living players would be weighted more this could easily be prevented. Their "no" votes could also then easily outweigh kicking attempts by troll friends who join a server only to start kicking people at random.

Additionally - or alternatively - you could disable any voting for fresh players (like, during their day 1-5 or something). If they may get trolled by other new or seasoned-in players their losses will hardly be that great, they don't really need the vote options at hand when they've only just begun playing on a server.

Perhaps ghosts should be forbidden from issuing and voting on anything at all, or at least they shouldn't be able to vote on world regeneration.

The world regeneration vote should maybe be disabled by default when creating new servers. It might be that the admins of many client-based or dedicated servers don't know how frustrating an unwarranted world regeneration vote can be (are there any warranted world regeneration votes?). If they actively change this vote option to be active so be it, but otherwise it shouldn't be there. The harm caused by trolls can usually mitigated by a rollback; I've yet to see any good reason why people need the world regeneration vote. If they really want it that bad and everyone actually agrees with it people can just kill themselves (in Survival). World regeneration is overkill and has done me a lot more harm than good (I think only harm, actually).

Additionally the vote window is pretty badly designed. I've already caused one or more world regeneration votes to pass because the game would take my click on the wrong option ("yes" instead of "no"). Please redesign the vote window to have more space between both options, maybe put them to the left and right of each other instead of up and down. Maybe prevent mouse clicking on them but instead assign some keyboard keys to the respective vote options, like F1 or F5. That is what any Source-based game does. No way I'm ever gonna accidently choose the wrong option then.

Pls Klei add Local Co-Op on PC because my brother want to play with me ;).

King Bunnyman/Queen of the Lagoon

I kind of want to see rulers for the Merms and Bunnymen, maybe they could offer items to the players depending on what you trade for them. For King Bunnyman, offer him various crops and he'll give you things like bunnypuffs or steel wool, and maybe even shroom skin. Queen of the Lagoon would give you mosquito sacks, reeds, tentacle spikes, and spots for pig skins and meat.

Make Gears Renewable

Many of the critical items in the game require gears, and in many seeds/worlds they are incredibly rare. This presents an issue as it may take you several hours of gameplay to understand that the world was generated with very few clockworks (the only predictable way to get gears).

In addition to tumbleweeds and graves I'd suggest adding some other mechanic to make or discover gears. Even if we came up with some method to build stone gears or something that needed to be replaced over time (eg broken fridge / flingo).

As a fallback allow gear frequency to be set as a server option, either in general terms or a basement threshold.

Suggestion about the new desert

$

0

In the last A New Reign update "Against the Grain" a new type of desert was added to world generation. During summer a sandstorm will make this whole biome immune to smoldering, making it the perfect place to build a huge permanent base for when flingomatics become too much of a problem to keep fueled or spending summer in the caves gets too repetitive or boring.

How I see it is that in this biome every resource should be able to be removed to make space for a huge base (for example: mining boulders, burning cactus, hammering bones) other than the oasis pond and the antlion, obviously. The problem is that there's a resource you can't get rid of and it's buzzards. They're annoying because you can't drop food as bait for other animals without them eating it and you can't really do anything about it.

There should be a way to get rid of them permanently (with a scarecrow maybe?) or maybe they shouldn't spawn in that desert. It might be a small thing, but it makes a huge difference for me.

World regrowth

There's a setting on world generation called "world regrowth" and from what I've seen it spawns trees over time in their respective biomes as long as there's natural turf. Most turfs in the game are considered natural and I like my base to be varied so I don't like how trees costantly spawn in the middle of my base and getting rid of them gets annoying, especially when the base starts getting bigger. Most things can be disabled, even important stuff such as seasons, dusk/night and more, but the lowest setting for world regrowth is "very slow". Is it possible to have a setting to completely disable it?

Change the Antlion's desert turf texture to look more like sand

$

I think the current turf the Antlion's desert has doesn't feel very desert-y, like the current turf feels more like a desert with drought which fits for the Dragonfly's desert, but not the Antlion's desert with harsh sandstorms!

So, I think making the Antlion's desert turf look a little more like sand would be very immersive & great, I mean it already has a new type of cactus, so a more sandy looking turf shouldn't be too hard for Klei to do!

I just really think it would make the new desert feel more like a desert & that would be very neat, you know :D! Thanks for reading the suggestion, have a great day/night :D!

New entity for the Antlion desert biome!

So, I really like the new biome added in this update, I just like deserts in general & the sandstorm thing I really thought was cool :D! So, I thought to myself what would make this neat biome even neater (other then making the turf more sand like)...a new unique entity!

So, I thought hard & this is what I came up with...

Spoiler

Calmels

Calmel.png

&

Spoiler

Camads

Camad.png

So, clearly these entities are based off of camels & my art is not very good & I don't know how to shade at all, but i'm sure Klei could do a better job if they added this or something similar :D!

So, how do these entities work & where do you find them?

So, when a new world is generated a very small herd 2-4 Calmels will spawn in the Antlion's desert & wander around it eating cactus, & when summer starts & the sandstorms begin they will head for the oasis & stay there drinking water & eating succulent plants till summer ends. Though, they can travel through sandstorms & when they travel through sandstorms imagine those petals around their eyes closing like to protect their eyes, pretty neat huh :D?

So, what do this entities give?

Well Calmels grow very nice flowers on their hump with strong cooling properties which players can use to make medicines or something :), but if you harvest their flowers they become Camads because those flowers are what keeps them cool in the great heat of the desert! While they're Camads they will attack everything that isn't a Calmel or Camad on sight & be highly aggressive! But don't worry Camads will eventually grow back their flowers after eating & sleeping enough, reverting back to Calmels.  Also, they're made out of meat, so I guess you can eat them too...

Calmels can also be ridden by players! So, while a player is riding them they get a little dapperness because of the soothing scent of the flowers growing on their back! Calmels move slower than players because they're always walking, but if a player rides them & moves in 1 direction for 10 seconds the Calmel will start sprinting, moving a little faster than Beefalo move! Also, Calmels won't be slowed by sandstorms so, they're excellent for moving through deserts quickly! Another great thing about Calmels is you'd be able to craft a Calmel Pouch & put it on them, allowing players to put items in them! Calmels need to eat actual plants like grass, cactus or succulent or they will starve to death, unlike Beefalo! If a Calmel is hungry then they will not carry players on their back & when a player mounts them they will just sit on the ground till you get off or feed them.

So, that's all I have :)! So, you're probably asking why a camel, their are so many other choices for desert entities!

Well, the reason I chose a camel is because

  1. I think they're kinda adorable
  2. I'm a sucker for rideable animals & thinking of something like players becoming traveling merchants in DST would make the game feel so cool, like just imagine there's this 1 guy on the server going around base to base selling stuff to other players riding on his Calmel, so cool :D!
  3. I think a camel entity would just fit in ANR update, since it's like Charlie's Reign & maybe she brought/made this creature because it's kinda nice with its flowers & stuff!
  4. I like the new Antlion desert & I don't want it to just be some boring place nobody wants to go to..if their where some very useful neat entities their then it would make people not just think of it as a place where you just go pay tributes to the Antlion.
  5. Camels are the most genuine creature of the desert you can get in the entire universe, & I really think it'd be great for a new entity that feels very special, like Beefalo :)!

Well, that's it for real now..have a great day/night, peace :D!

Game Paused

$

Well. Escaping from game (hitting escape button) gives a message "Game is not paused. Seriously it is not". While this game is multiplayer, i can understand this. But if i play solo, why game cannot be paused? Seriously, why not? There are many games which allows a pause in multiplayer mode so, a suggestion. Implement a pause system in solo at least. Better yet, pause in multiplayer and solo, probably with some options " May pause: 1. none 2. Host only 3. Host and client.". Simple.

Bioluminescent lake instead of fireflies.

I really like the lake being able to have a more consistent way of obtaining trinkets, but I have one problem with it. When fishing at night, the fireflies in the centre appear and it makes it difficult to hook and reel in with a mouse. Clicking near the edge of the lake will sometimes cause my character to move instead. I've had to plug in and use my controller which is something I've never done while playing Don't Starve.

A little, but extremely important change to survival

$

Hey!

I'll start with saying that I don't like endless mode. It's too easy - no sanity drain when dead players are present, no maximum health penalty after revival via telltale heart and resurrecting at portal. I can understand that it was meant to be endless and work well with public servers.
I play survival. It's the best gamemode in my opinion, the most popular for sure. But there is one thing that can destroy everything - world regeneration when everyone is dead. Wait, let me correct myself - when all present players are dead. 'But hey, it's the difficulty you wanted, right?' Yes, but imagine playing with friends. One of them hosts dedicated server on his PC, so if they have to go for dinner or walk their dog or just doesn't feel like playing - others can still play. It's a neat feature. Okay, now you play alone, since everyone just had more important things to do etc. You do stupid mistake and get killed Bunnyman, or maybe you just get terrible lag and die because you lagged while staying on tentacle. No one to revive you using heart, touchstones already used, no amulet on you. You didn't place effigy. In this case, the world will reset, destroying all the hard work of your group.
The simple solution would be to let host customise the duration of 'everyone is dead' countdown or remove it at all. This would save many private dedicated servers from world regeneration against the will of players. Adding new 'custom' gamemode is also an option, where host can configure many aspects like max hp penalties, sanity drain and so on.
