Place to dump ideas

Welcome! This is a thread where you can just dump your ideas that you're sure will never make it into the game but you just want to share tchem with somebody.
 

Mine for example: Giving game some more... atmosphere? Mood? However you wanna call it.
1. Durring full moons hounds should howl when they are idle, or at least there should be sound of them howling in the dystanse. And yes I know werepigs howl. But they howl only as a sign to show that they've aggroed to something. 
2. Some more idle animations. There are already creatures that have idle animations for exaple Glommer (bouncing) Beefalo (crying, eating). I think that the game would feel kind of... better (English not primary language) with creatures seeming more alive. 

Now some idle animations ideas: -Spiders could look around the place for prey.
-Pigs could scratch themselves 
-Tallbirs could move their egg around the nest to more it more ,,comfortable"
-When player leaves bone-eye on the ground chester couldwalk around it like some sort of ritual dance.

Welp... I think these are all the stupid ideas that i had in head... Have a good day


A buff for the Grass Suit: Protection from the elements.

I feel the Straw Suit is, for good reason, very underused and could benefit from some love.

I propose that the Grass Suit gets:

  • Additional 20% resistance to wetness (equivalent to a breezy vest)
  • Additional 60 insulation points from summer heat (equivalent to a straw hat)
  • Additional 60 insulation points from winter cold (equivalent to the rabbit earmuffs)

My rationale is this...

Despite both grass suits and log suits running on fairly mundane materials, the log suit is a blatant direct upgrade to the grass suit... why even use it? Even newbies, why pretty much EVER use it at all unless you simply found it? You'd do better to focus on getting a science machine and make the log suit, it blocks better, it lasts way longer, it runs on equally mundane items. Get a log suit.

But with these buffs?

Imagine joining in the dead of summer. A (buffed) grass suit + a grass hat + a pretty parasol (all tier 0 science) makes for an even 240 insulation. That exactly equal to an Eyebrella. Holy crap, right? Then when you're doing chores (chopping trees, mining rocks, fighting enemies, etc), when you have to put your pretty parasol away you've still got 120 insulation, rather than 60. That's equivalent to an umbrella, except you've got your tools out.

Further, the grass suit runs on ingredients very similar to the Straw Hat and visually goes with it. It only seems natural that it'd have straw hat like stats. This grass-hat style stat boost would turn the grass suit into a lovely sidegrade to the logsuit for very early game. Not to mention, the newer players, who are probably going to use this the most, are going to feel compelled NOT to tank, lest they lose the grass suit's protection from the elements, thereby encouraging good kiting behavior while simultaneously offering them a bit of forgiveness if they do indeed get hit.

It's the perfect newbie item.

  • Wouldn't this buff make the straw hat, (which runs off of almost the same exact recipe yet loses durability over time and has no armor) obsolete?

I'm worried about that too but I'm thinking that it'd be just fine. The thing about the straw hat is that it still leaves you with an important decision: For abooout the same resources, do you want to craft, A. Some protective armor that also keeps you warm/cool, and dry but replaces your backpack or, B. A hat that lets you wear a backpack, that keeps you cool, and that you'll probably eventually repurpose into a Miner Hat near the end of its life. Considering grass suits and grass hats have nearly identical recipes, it's quite the decision. I can't definitely say one's better than the other for most situations. If I can't say that, then it sounds like a sidegrade to me.

  • And what about rabbit earmuffs, (which, when you factor in the crafting of the trap, effectively requires 6 grass and 4 twigs in addition to the pain of snatching 2 rabbits, making them fairly similar recipes)

This... is a little sketchier. But you're still sacrifice your backpack slot. That's insanely valuable. Going through the hassle of chasing 2 rabbits around for a bit so that you can take your grass suit off and still keep warm (for whatever 60 insulation's good for lol...) might feel worth it to the player. Might actually feel worth it for me... If this isn't balanced and I'm just talking out of my ass, I would say that it's a testament to the underpowered nature of rabbit earmuffs, rather than a testament to the buffed grass suit being overpowered.

  • What about the log suit. Isn't this going to challenge the log suit?

Yup, and that's the idea. If you're, say, deliberately tanking the Deerclops, you're gonna want the proper armor to go with it. i.e. get a log suit. But what if you're, say, kiting it with several people, and the plan isn't to get hit but you still want a bit of cushion in case you make a mistake so you don't just BOOM get hit and lose literally half your health. Maybe a log suit is overkill, not to mention the added insulation might allow you to stay in the fight longer, which is important as kiting the Deerclops is going to take far more time than tanking it. So now we've got a distinct purpose for the grass suit and a distinct purpose for the log suit. Sounds like a sidegrade to me.

The Ancient Gateway Destabilization Time Displayer & More

Hello,I wanted to suggest adding something for the Ancient Gateway in "Atrium",after Fuelweaver is beaten.

It would add a timer,showing the players,how much time they have,until the Gateway destabilizes,and explodes.

It would give the Players a bit more stress,and a decision: Stay,or leave.

Players would have around 3-4 minutes to leave the maze,and the whole Atrium itself.

If they would get out from Atrium in time,and they would be still in caves,they would hear from far a very strong explosion,making a lot od creepy noises,creating an earthquake shaking the whole screen,and dropping a lot of stones from the top of the cave,but nothing else bad would happen. Just a few Shadow particles coming from the side,where the gateway is,and after disappearing.

If they would stay,or not leave in time,the Gateway would start to Drag In ALL the players that are still in the Atrium (like sealnado in shipwrecked or something),and when all the players will get absorbed by it,there would appear a very strong shadow explosion,that would take the players somewhere (Currently I think it would take them to arena in "The Forge" event).

What do You think about that?

I think that it would be a big improvement and a very cool addicion for the game.

I've been trying to get Don't Starve together to launch for days. I played for months and had no problem. One day I went to open it to play and it says "WARNING! Unable to write config directory. Please make sure you have permissions for your Klei save folders." Since that day, I have uninstalled ALL mods, uninstalled and reinstalled the game on Steam multiple times and keep getting the same message. Please help. It may also help to know that I play on my Macbook.

Don't Starve Together is one of my favourite games on Steam, and I love collecting achievements for games. 

I think adding achievements to DST would create more incentive for people to play. I love achievements and I love DST.

dragon fly drops

she is very hard to kill in together and has few drops here is a idea 

make her drop 10- 15  fire souls they are used for three things fire walls, inferno sword and, flame trap

the walls need 1 fire soul and 4 stone walls to make 4 fire walls. fire walls could have the same health as stone and can't burn plus burn enemy's that hit them.

the  inferno sword needs 8 flint, 4 fire souls, and 4 logs it does 50 damage and burns target. other stuff it could do??? 

the trap is simaler  to  tooth traps  but flings its self at close targets, it costs 1 tooth trap and 1 fire soul. same power as tooth trap plus burning.

this is only a suggestion comment what you think :D

Cap the Marketplace

I might be the only person who thinks this, but I'd like to see the Klei devs put a cap on how much something can be sold for on the marketplace.

Or at least an anchor price, or even a set price!

If Klei could make it so you could buy skins from them, like the Gladiator skins, but with EVERYTHING, they'd be anchoring the value of the skins, and as such they won't reach hyperinflation (like new skins), or hyper deflation (like commons), and that way people aren't spending triple OR EVEN QUADRUPLE the amount of money that they spent to buy the game on cosmetics!!

They don't even have to do that, they could just release a statement saying what the values of all the skins are, and as such mitigate problems like this:

Hey guys,

I am a big fan of Dont starve and dst. I played this game with my friends in America and fell in love with it. I even watch dst gameplays all the time.I really hope that klei launches dont starve together in Korean psn stores. Can anyone also tell me when dst is available in Korea ps4?

We're currently in hallowed Nights but maybe for next year and this year's Winter Feast perhaps you can do some more balloons?

I'd love a batilisk balloon for Hallowed Nights and maybe some Krampus and Koalefant balloons for the winter time.

The Bumbrella

I was drinking a Gatorade TM (not a sponsor) and I had possibly the most innovative thought in human history: the bumbrella. I'm not too picky on what it would do, but that's just a perfect name. I guess the Bee Queen would drop a blueprint and you could make it from stingers, honey, and honey combs. It would work like a regular umbrella, but would let you run faster, and cause bees to give you respect (which is to say not attack you). IDK, I just thought a bumbrella was a good idea.


Trinket display

Here is a small idea : why not having a structure when you can put a trinket, so you can decorate your base with your nice trinket. With the halloween update there is some trinkets i really like, i would like to display them without just putting them in ground.

Willow

I'd love to see the player statistics and player time statistics of the various characters to see who gets and doesn't get play, but let's talk about Willow, again. I know, I know. It's been done a lot, maybe even to death, but if you don't want to read ANOTHER thread about Willow, GOOD NEWS! There's other threads! I know, WEIRD! You can just ignore this one. It is actually possible, I know. I've done it!

Anyhow, so, Willow is broken. By now we all know her abilities and weaknesses, and she's boring sauce. Sorry, she is, so, no long arguments for or against (at least for now), let's just get to the brass tacks.

1) "Has a sweet lighter."

Give Willow her Lighter back. Willow should start the game with Willow's Lighter in her inventory. It should have no durability. It should restore her sanity at +10 Sanity/Min (edit: as she was in DS). If Willow drops her lighter and a character other than Willow picks it up (or if the Willow that picks it up already has a Willow's Lighter), it becomes a normal torch. If Willow has no Lighter, when the player makes a Torch or picks up a torch, it magically becomes Willow's Lighter. (also, no cooking on a Lighter, that's just stupid...)

2) "Immune to fire damage."

Give Willow her Fire Immunity back. Willow should have 100% immunity to fire. Fire is a rare damage source that makes the immunity an extremely niche power, and requires a lot of time and investment in order to leverage (ie: fire farms). The Firefly fight is the only fight where her fire immunity could give Willow's player any real advantage, otherwise fire is a very dangerous weapon, because it tends to destroy loot.

3) "Lights fires when nervous."

Give Willow her Pyromania back. Willow should set random fires when low on Sanity. I know, this is desperately unpopular, but hear me out here. One, fire mechanics in DST are a LOT different than they were in DS. Fires spread slowly, and provide a lot of time for players to get out of the way or fight fires, if they want. Tech like Fling-o-matics help protect bases and other critical resources from fires, so her negative is manageable...

4) I honestly don't care what you do with Bernie the Bear. Dump it. Keep it. Whatever...

Okay, that's what I'm asking, what I'm offering...

1) Willow's Lighter. To get the Lighter, maybe, like Wigfrid won't eat anything but meat, Willow won't use Torches. So if the player wants a light source better than her Lighter, they'll have to make a Mining Hat or a Lantern, but torches are just out for Willow. Also @ZorrerTheZmith suggested that torches should burn out faster when Willow is using them. Maybe torches burn brighter, but lots faster for Willow, making her infinite Lighter much more efficient for her?

2) Willow's Fire Immunity. Maybe, Willow takes Sanity damage from cold, making Winter harder, or wet, making Spring and rain significantly harder. Alternatively, because this could create problems with her Pyromania, she gets slower when cold or wet, but this could replace her pyromania fire setting.

3) Willow's Pyromania. Maybe Willow's Flames are cold, rather than hot. Maybe rather than spreading, she merely burns things that are valuable, not merely flammable, causing it to break into Ash, Charcoal, and maybe component gold or gems, obviously fewer than were necessary to replace whatever she burned. Perhaps the fire she starts at low Sanity is a black flame that sprouts shadow crawlers, etc. Maybe she sets alot of endothermic fires that cool her down, but don't spread. There's a lot of alternatives, but she needs to "start fires". A pyromaniac that doesn't start fires is like a kleptomaniac that doesn't steal. It's NORMAL.

4) Bernie, again, I don't care. I really don't like the Bernie thing, but I'm indifferent.

Basically, the long of it is this: Willow sucks.

1) She doesn't do anything that anyone else can't do. Wigfrid and Wolfgang are the undisputed power combat characters. Wickerbottom and Maxwell are the best utility characters. Even Wendy is great at farming spiders.

2) Willow's Lighter is QUICKLY obsolete. Crockpots make vastly better food than cooking on her Lighter, and Firepits are a day 3-4 thing. The materials needed to make her Lighter are more valuable for other things, Torches are too easy to make and a better light source. By the time materials (gold) are disposable to make a replacement Lighter, the Lantern and Miner Hat both provide VASTLY superior and are easily refuelable. The ONLY advantage Willow's Lighter has is Sanity maintenance, and it does so badly. Remove its durability.

3) Fire Immunity is part of what made "The Firestarter" unique. Giving her "fire resistance" is like giving away a new used car on a game show. "Well, it's new to you, right!" just isn't the same. Don't Thrift Shop me, bro.

4) Willow's pyromania is a challenge. I get it. It's unpopular in a group play setting. Characters like Wigfrid's only downside is technically an upside for everyone else (one less person eating from the farms). But, once again, having a pyromaniac that doesn't actually set fires isn't a pyromaniac. It's kind of necessary to pyromania. You can't call Willow "The Firestarter" if she doesn't actually start any fires. Fix it.

5) Also, I'd still like to see a "Classic Characters" option in the Server settings, that allows hosts and players play DST with the original DS style characters.

MY GOAL: HAVE WILLOW PLAYABLE (MEANING FUN AND ENJOYABLE) IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE
Not to make her top tier like WICKERBOTTOM, WOLFGANG, & WX-78 (The Holy Trinity LOL)

FOUR MAIN POINTS TO CHANGE

1 :: Revert Willow to immune to Fire due to being so situational OR give her resistance/
immunity to overheating paired with the current fire resistance.

2 :: Have her lighter be refillable instead of being able to cook and take more valuable
resources to craft. my example:[1x rope, 1x gold, 1x flint, 1x rock, & 1x petal.][[fuel
could be petals, rope, grass, mushrooms, berries, ,birch nuts, or small fruits.]]

3 :: Give Bernie the additional function to walk over and instantly put out fire in
exchange for ~10hp. Will be a check and to determine trolling Willows. Increased crafting
cost for having two functions. my example:[2-4x nightmare fuel, 2-4x silk, & 2-4x beefalo
wool] = 1000-2000 hp Bernie

4 :: Replace Willow's downside of freezing with Random combustion like original and maybe
pair being more susceptible/prone to freezing.

Willow's adaptation from DS to DST was misfortunate but thanks to updates and great
active developers it can change currently(Fall 2017) most people find her perks not worth
it and her horrible downside which personally isn't "fun" to play around unlike her original
nerve-wracking random fires you had to fight back like her deep desires to burn everything
which had good immersion. Her Immunity to fire reduce to resistance is understandable but
at least give her immunity to overheating but nothing really beats fire resistance. Now
let's get to her special items starting with the lighter which should have finite
durability and smaller light radius for balancing issues. I don't know why a pyro"MANIAC"
would have a rational process to say "huh I could cook with my lighter" and not "more fuel
for the fire!". I propose her lighter to be maintain it's current light radius and run
time of 10 min(600 sec) but as a trade off would like to have it be crafted from
[1x rope, 1x gold, 1x rock, 1x flint, & lx petal] and be refillable instead of cooking
food. Especially since it steps on Warly's turf and he has a better mobile cooking ability
further showcasing Willow doesn't do anything better than any other character's perk but
suffers an unproportionate downside. Hitting the same note again her companion Bernie is
subpar when compared to Lucy(infinite Axe), Maxwell's shadow puppets, or Wendy's sister
Abigail. Bernie could be a bit more immersive by functioning as a regular teddy bear by
dettering the monsters and being a poor man's ice fling-o-matic to be a check for Willow's
pyromania. While active in addition to Distracting Nightmare creatures he could run up and
put out fires instantly at the cost of 10hp. This would also determine if a random Willow
online is intentionally trolling because they would put out a Bernie if they are low on
sanity. Plus they would learn of this new function quickly as they have him out by the
campfire at night. As compensation for this additional perk an upgraded cost of
[2x nightmare fuel, 2x silk, & 2x beefalo wool]. I propose nightmare fuel because getting
hair is either killing hairlings/hairlords while nightmare fuels ties with Bernie's first
function of distracting nightmares so you can escape/kill them. Maybe even increase the
crafting cost of Bernie to 4x of each silk,wool,fuel to double his health since the
intention is to have him be more viable and furthermore used more. Hopefully if any of
these changes are implemented she will be on par with Wilson and Wendy maybe even Maxwell
or Webber.
